Building Permit

In September 2023, Friend City Council passed Ordinance 23-800, which included updates to when building permits are required.  As a reminder, all building projects within jurisdictional city limits as described in the ordinance require a city building permit before the start of the project.

Building Permit applications are available only at City Hall for a $10.00 administration fee.

After the application and payment is received, the city building inspector will be notified and given the application. He will then contact the appropriate parties to assess building plans and estimates. After approving the application, the building inspector will then return the application to City Hall, where building fees will be calculated. Applicants can then pay building fees and pick up their yellow building permit. This permit must be posted at the site in a place visible from the street, after which work on the project is allowed to begin. An application, even once approved, is not a valid permit: the yellow permit card is required.

Below is a list of permit fees based on value of the project:

Total Valuation Fee
$1 to $2,000

$24

$2,001 to $40,000

$69

$40,001 to $100,000 $487
$100,001 to $500,000 $1,027
$500,001 to $1,000,000 $3,827
$1,000,001 to $5,000,000 $6,327
$5,000,001 and over $18,327

Fees are due after building inspector's approval, and must be paid in full when permit is issued.
